The railroad tank cars of Nylon salt solution leaving the Belle plant contained 50 percent water. This water solution was necessary in order to prevent the mixture from “salting out,” or solidifying before being spun into yarn. The process which produced the Nylon salt was complex and involved several distillation steps.
