In his first game as head coach of the New York Jets, Lou Holtz lost to the Cleveland Browns. After losing 9 of his next 12 games, he resigned and never again coached in the NFL.

Lou Holtz coached Notre Dame to a national football championship by defeating West Virginia University 34-21 in the Fiesta Bowl.
